The all new season of Angel, now left alone on the WB and forced to strive for itself. And it deserves to do quite well, this is a great episode to start off the season probably the best of the three season openers so far. In addition to that you throw in a twist and this is a great
set-up for the season. It covers all the bases Angel is coping with Buffy's passing as the episode starts and he realises he should have Gunn's advice and just gone to Vegas. But alas after fighting many many demonic monks he finds it is time to return home. When he arrives all the gang are there, Fred is having difficulty reinfiltrating and stays in her room talking to no-one but Angel but I can see she will open up pretty soon. Cordelia is just continuing to flourish and grow beautifully as a character not only is she adorable and funny she is also showing some of the signs that the visions are taking their toll. We even get to see (well you don't technically see him) phantom Dennis in action, oh how some will wish they were a ghost now! Along with that Gunn and Wesley are still ultra buddy like, Gunn is still the king of street cool and Wesley well while he is a goof he has a new hairdo! A lot of the jury is out on that hairdo but it grew on me.
The episode other than reintroducing to all that has been going on refreshes the character Holtz (He was featured briefly in flashbacks in Darla I believe). A man who held a grudge against Darla and Angelus back in the day and I have a feeling he will have involvement this season. Along with this there is the main story of Angel killing some vampires one of which turns out to be a past friend. Her boyfriend takes a real grudge upon this and decides to enact his revenge on Angel for killing his true love. The interesting part of it is he consults a demonic surgeon who gives him the surgery to become an invincible vampire. How do they work it out? You will just have to see.
By the end of the episode all is back in the swing and the series is off to a good start. That is until the entire series is given a massive twist in the end through our seeing Current day Darla. I must say it raises a lot of ponderings and questions and I simply cannot wait to see how it all pans out. All in all it was a great way to kick off a season and I am happy to have seen it already!
